Stories
(to read by the pool)

Raven's song
(Or, How everything became something)
Branch-hopping from maple to madrona to pine,
Dark as a missing piece of midnight sky.
Coursing through forests sunk in mist
Laughing as the sun almost rises on another
Ca-ha-ha! dripping toneless day.

The School
This was a story is a bit of self-indulgence written and read aloud to
a classroom of elementary students at Riviera Elementary on career day.
At least that's how I remember it.
autonomous
It is not possible to make a lasting compromise between technology and freedom,
because technology is by far the more powerful social force and
continually encroaches on freedom through repeated compromises.
- Ted Kaczynski
as quoted in Lapham's Quarterly

Hairball
What would you do, if you weren't afraid?
The story of Satyakama,
desirer of truth
This story is adapted from the Chandogya Upanishad, circa 700 b.c.
I thought I'd give it sort of conversational retelling. I honestly didn't change much.
roadkill
I've spent a lot of my adult life thinking about cars, making cars emotionally desirable.
The funny thing is, I'm really more of a bike guy.
